Horse split reins are two individual leather reins that are usually about 8’ long. They are almost exclusively used in Western-style riding as they are designed for neck reining. Both western leather reins are held in the hand of the rider and they use the pressure of the rein on the horses neck to give directional instructions. Split leather reins are by far the most versatile type of reins used in western riding, but they can be a bit challenging to master.
